McCrae Homestead, Victoria’s oldest, original existing house, built on one of the largest leases in Port Phillip colony – Arthur’s Seat Run – 33 square miles – 20500 acres (8296 ha).
This National Trust property, built in 1844 of locally felled timber in drop-slab construction, was designed by diarist and artist Georgiana McCrae, daughter of the 5th Duke of Gordon and wife of Andrew McCrae, an Edinburgh solicitor.
The McCrae’s were one of the first six pioneer families on Mornington Peninsula.
Guided tours enable visitors to step back in time for a glimpse of the extremely difficult lives of our pioneer settlers.
Visitors are welcome to picnic on the lawns of the property adjacent the visitor centre.
