Romance with a bit of Mornington Peninsula style - Visit Mornington Peninsula
Mostly clear 15.7°C

So you are in love… but rather than give into the overwhelming pressure to say how you feel with stuffed teddy bears and long stem roses, do something both original and memorable and get your romance happening with a bit of Mornington Peninsula style!

The Obamas (remember them?) shared a cute Instagram pic of their sandy toes at the beach last Valentine’s Day and if you want ‘in’ on that level of happiness read on! Our picks will keep you busy romancing from sunrise to sunset and everything in between.

At Sunrise

Start your romantic adventure outdoors with a serene sunrise Horseback ride at Balnarring Beach, complete with a delicious foreshore café breakfast to keep you going. The horses enjoy the experience just as much as you, and the intimate group sizes mean that the early morning serenity isn’t disrupted. There is even the option to treat you and your loved one to some more royal treatment with a relaxing bathe at Peninsula Hot Springs.

Take it slow, picnic style

A romantic picnic at an award-winning winery is sure to have you feeling a bit starry eyed and give you a chance to kick off the shoes ‘Obama-style’ to reconnect in nature. Montalto, Lindenderry at Red Hill and Polperro Winery, all offer decadent, fresh picnic hampers with everything you need to enjoy your picnic amongst the vines. While they each have their own unique style, some of the flavours that will tempt you include sticky Asian delights and salty European antipasto selections. Never fear about running out of wine either as the friendly cellar door teams will happily share their favourite drop with you and make sure you take a bottle home. Or if you want to find your very own special picnic place, Blue Mini Café will pack you a picnic to go. These come ready-packed in cute boxes and they’ll even suggest some top spots to enjoy your picnic, so you can choose your own romantic picnic adventure.

Alluring Adventure

if you choose Valentines Day for your visit to Arthurs Seat Eagle you will get your own private gondola, with relaxing music and free nibbles at the café. The view across Port Phillip and the Mornington Peninsula is spectacular and you will have your special someone all to yourself for at least 30 minutes on the round trip journey. Just a short stroll from here are the scenic Seawinds Gardens combining exotic gardens, William Ricketts sculptures and the type of look-out points that make you want to snuggle up to your partner while pointing toward far away things and looking longingly into the distance. Selfie heaven! On the Southern side of the Peninsula, Cape Schanck Lighthouse beckons people all year round. Its cliff-top charm and windswept views make it a favourite spot for romantics and photographers alike. If you are choosing Valentine’s Day to get down on one knee, then this is a spot you would seriously want to consider doing it.

At Sunset

As the sun dips toward the horizon, there is something truly special in that moment that it bathes everything (including your partner) in a warm glow. Take a hand-in-hand sunset stroll (complete with incredible views overlooking Western Port) along the meandering paths at Point Leo Estate while marvelling at outdoor sculptures that have to be seen to be believed. The restaurant itself is designed so everyone has a stunning view over the water to Phillip Island. And for those looking for a romantic Valentines dinner complete with a free glass of sparkling or a beer and a shared dessert option (what could be more romantic), look no further than the Deck at Flinders Hotel.

Don’t know where to start?

So you’ve read this far and perhaps still can’t decide what to do or where to stay? Fear not, we have the answer! (Plus would a Valentine’s Day blog really be complete without some mention of gifts?) The Mornington Peninsula regional tourism website (ie. the one you are on now) offer gift vouchers for any bookable product on it! There are “Play Vouchers” - you could use  to go kayaking, sailing, snorkelling and more with Bayplay, tour the region getting behind the scenes with MP Experience Tours, or to get up close and personal with native Australian animals at Moonlit Sanctuary. Or there are “Stay Vouchers” which, as the name suggests, give you the choice of bookable accommodation whether it be a quaint B&B, a glitzy 5 star hotel or a cottage in the countryside with a plunging bath tub. So whatever is your romantic style there is something for you and your special someone, and it’s the love and smiles you share that will really make it a day to remember.
