Wet Day Activities - Visit Mornington Peninsula
Sunny 19.7°C

Rainy days can be just as fun as a sunshine filled day so we’ve gathered eight ideas that’ll turn the gloomiest of days around. Most of our ideas involve staying inside where you’ll be as dry as a bone, but for the small child in all of us there is one activity which requires a little sense of adventure and a big love of animals! Read on and dread the rainy days no more.

Stay dry …. come sit by the fire and sip a Pinot or Chardonnay at Main Ridge Estate. Visit the cellar door from noon to 5 pm Friday- Monday, choose from the grazing menu, Red Hill Cheeseboards and snack plates Yum!  This beautiful family-run winery is worth venturing out for even if it’s raining.

How about tasting some Hix craft beers, some wines and select from a menu fresh grown produce. Hickinbotham of Dromana and Hix Brewery also has an authentic “aussie” ambiance and is perfect for relaxing in front of the open fire or listening to live music over breathtaking views, hmm!…..it’s so easy! If the rain stops there are farm animals for the kids to visit.

Fancy a “Hot Buttered Winter Gin” or a “Brandy Old Fashioned”?  Then a visit to Bass and Flinders Distillery is a must. Did you know they make a gin for Winter, aptly named Winter Gin? Come in for a tasting at the cellar door or fill your rainy afternoon with a two-hour gin masterclass where you can make a bottle of our own unique gin to take home. Bookings essential. Experience a journey from vineyard to glass!

“Winter weekday fun” at Crittenden Estate, just imagine a Fine Wine and Artisan Chocolate Tasting, bookings are essential for this decadent experience and if you decide to really indulge book in for an overnight stay in the beautiful Lakeside Villas and dine in the modern vineyard restaurant.  You can also visit the cellar door while you’re there and stock up the wine rack.

Even though it’s raining you can enjoy a ride on Arthurs Seat Eaglesoaring above the trees in a state-of-the-art gondola and feed the hungry mouths at the Eagle Café at the top of the summit enjoying the view from the all-weather deck or sit in the warm café. You can even get a 20% discount with their “Winter Week Yays”, a great discount if you make your trip on a weekday (offer valid until 17th August 2108).

Sailing across the bay aboard Searoad Ferries great idea for a wet day. Sail across Port Phillip from Sorrento to Queenscliff, view the stunning coastline whilst you enjoy the warmth of the lounges and café, you can drive on and off, there’s even an onboard playground for the kids, check the website for special activities and school holiday ideas.

Grab the gumboots, raincoats and the kids and head to the Rain Hayne and Shine Farmyard. All animal-loving kids enjoy a hands-on experience with a farm animal cuddle and feed. If the weather permits take a hayride to complete the experience. They have indoor and outdoor picnic areas and a small playground. Do not miss out on seeing the wallabies, emus and a dingo, making this visit a full farm day experience to enjoy.

So whether you’re brave enough to don your coat and boots to jump in puddles or you are looking for an indoor activity to keep you warm, you’ll find something to discover on the Mornington Peninsula.
