Port Phillip Estate

Wine Food Farm Gate Port Phillip Estate, an architectural landmark and one of the most exciting wine destinations in Australia. With panoramic views over undulating vineyards and the sea, Port Phillip Estate lies on a spectacular site on the picturesque Mornington Peninsula. The landmark building owned by the Gjergja family and designed by Wood Marsh Architecture, unfurls across the ridge, spiralling from the ground and rising to form the dramatic 120 metre eastern wall. This abstract sculptural form nestles into the landscape and conceals much of the building. Inside, beyond the monumental limestone rammed earth exterior walls of the building, the light-filled Dining Room and Cellar Door open to an expansive outdoor timber deck taking advantage of the sweeping views. Driftwood coloured earthen walls, polished concrete floors, and dark stained timber integrate beautifully with the landscape. The Dining Room at Port Phillip Estate is a refined space offering exceptional food and wine. The contemporary cuisine is infused with a strong European sensibility. The menu changes regularly, highlighting the best of the season. The relationship between food and wine is symbiotic, in both pursuits we strive to highlight terroir and seasonality. The Cellar Door is the heart of Port Phillip Estate. Its bold architecture, elegant tasting bar and spectacular views make it one of the most exciting cellar doors in Australia. Our wines are entirely estate grown and produced and strongly reflect the vineyard site attributes. The winemaking is overseen by Glen Hayley. The Cellar Door Kitchen offers a relaxed and friendly atmosphere with panoramic views over the vineyards and the sea beyond. For those seeking an informal dining experience, the Cellar Door Kitchen is a great place to unwind and enjoy excellent food and wine. Port Phillip Estate offers unique luxury accommodation on the Mornington Peninsula.

With more than 50 cellar door wineries and some of Australia’s top wines right here on the Mornington Peninsula, there is bound to be something that suits your palette.

In one of the world’s most respected wine magazines, Andrew Jefford also said: “I wrote that it was almost like the Chambolle-Musigny vintage for Mornington. A wonderful amount of grace and impressive force. Super-attractive wines.” It all began in the 1970s with a handful of visionary winemakers, and by the 1990s the Mornington Peninsula was recognised as one of the most exciting new regions in the world for extraordinary Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Now, an even more intimate understanding of the Mornington Peninsula’s hills and valleys, micro-climates and their unique ‘terroir’ is leading to a greater sense of place and individuality in these wines. Outstanding Pinot Grigio/Gris, Shiraz and other varietals have also claimed their place. So come and talk to our Mornington Peninsula winemakers and explore Red Hill, Main Ridge, Merricks, Balnarring, Moorooduc and Dromana. More than 50 cellar doors, ranging from the rustic to grand landmarks, are operated by 200 vineyards, and many are open seven days a week. There’s a fabulous range of food too, from casual shared platters through to fine dining restaurants.
