No entertainment/No nonsense New Year’s Eve
Mornington Peninsula Shire is continuing to take a ‘No Entertainment-No Nonsense’ approach for the upcoming New Year’s Eve on the peninsula, working in partnership with a community-based steering committee, police and residents to reduce the negative impact of celebrations in the area.
The approach assists in providing a safe environment for holiday makers and residents.
We are working to make the peninsula a safe place for people to enjoy the New Year period, and to do this there will be no organised public entertainment or fireworks, bans on drinking alcohol in public places and a high police presence on the peninsula.
No public events or activities – all venues pre-ticketed There are no organised public events on the peninsula over the New Year period. Venues operating on New Year’s Eve will only be accessible to people who have pre-purchased tickets.
Fireworks Fireworks are completely prohibited.
Fire Safety People are reminded to be extremely vigilant of fires, and be particularly fire-safe on the peninsula. More information about fire safety can be found at: www.cfa.vic.gov.au or www.dse.vic.gov.au
Bus Service – Portsea to Safety Beach A $10.00, one-way only bus service will operate from Portsea to Safety Beach every half hour from Portsea Hotel to Marine Drive, Safety Beach from midnight to 3am. No drop offs are permitted in Sorrento. Tickets can be purchased onboard, and security guards will be present at all times.
Car Parking Parking restrictions apply in Sorrento along the foreshore from 8am and at the Rye Pier car parks from approximately 4pm (or at Police discretion) on New Year’s Eve. No road closures are expected.
Emergencies/Incidents In the event of an emergency call: 000.
Camping No camping is permitted in any public parks or reserves, and all camping in permitted foreshore areas is fully booked.
Liquor Laws Apply from 9.00pm December 30 to 12.00am January 1, and will be enforced by Victoria Police. Possession of sealed and unsealed containers of liquor in public places is prohibited (unless being transported from point of sale to a vehicle or private residence for consumption). Possession of any glass container while in a public place is also prohibited.
