We are now well into Spring and the Mornington Peninsula is warming up to its best.  This October there is plenty to do, fresh produce and handmade crafts to enjoy, cooking and foraging classes plus some learning and a bit of dancing to be done. Here are our top six picks for October…

1.       Why do a cooking class when you can do a foraging and cooking class?  Check out this hands-on ‘Forage in Flinders’ Cooking Class that will inspire and challenge your cooking skills. Forage in the Georgie Bass Café & Cookery garden to pick your own fresh produce. Cook with your harvest and transform your ingredients into something delicious. They are on each Saturday in October so ready… set… forage, cook, taste.

2.       If the mention of dancing caught your fancy - what better time to do it than at a Birthday Party? Can you believe that Searoad Ferries

is turning 30 and what a party it’s going to be! Live music, food trucks, regional wine & beers and fireworks to top off the evening. Take yourself back to 1987 by enjoying food from the 80s whilst a DJ rocks the boat including 80s anthems. October 21 will definitely a fun night out.  Top tip: book a ticket before it sells out.

3.       There is nothing nicer than wandering through the streets of a beautiful village. And the Sorrento Makers Market in the heart of Sorrento on October 22 offers that AND a boutique shopping experience. Stroll up and down the main street sorting through handcrafted products by artisans, gourmet producers and wine makers. With Christmas around the corner you can get in early and pick up the perfect gift for yourself.

4.       A favorite for us all is a locally sourced and cooked meal add a stunning location and its ‘La Dolce Vita’.   If this sounds like it’s got you written all over it, book into the ‘Meet the Locals’ lunch at Lindenderry at Red Hill. This event on October 29 will provide you with the opportunity to meet with local producers, farmers and growers of the Mornington Peninsula, and eat their produce. Does the thought of Dromana Bay mussels tempt you? Or perhaps it’s the mention of fire-roasted beef short ribs finishing off with Red Hill Cherry Pie that is appealing to you. And this is just the beginning… need we mention gin cured trout or chocolate dipped strawberries?

5.       It would not be a Peninsula list if we didn’t mention Pinot!  If you are as mad about pinot noir as us, be the first to savour the inaugural release of Yabby Lake Vineyard’s Single Clone Pinot Noir Selection. This is a collection of six different pinot noirs from their 2016 vintage with each wine being a separate bottling of the different clones of pinot noir. Special guided tastings are available on weekends during October.

6.       More wine, you say? Check out the Crittenden Wine Centre for a fabulous wine experience with a difference - and October 22 will see a glorious outdoor perfomance by The Stiletto Sisters.  Come and enjoy the music, take in the views of the vines, the lake and soak up the atmosphere of Crittenden Estate. The Sisters' blend of gypsy, tango and love songs are all performed with extreme delicacy, blazing intensity and a touch of humour.  And you can enjoy it all with a glass of wine in hand; what better way to spend a lazy Sunday in Spring?

Finally whilst a daytrip is possible its far better to give yourself time to slow down, enjoy the season and take in the best views of the Peninsula.  You can snooze, soar and discover with Lakeside Villas at Crittenden Estate in Dromana. This value package allows you to make  the villas your base for a couple of days while you enjoy a breathtaking gondola ride over Arthurs Seat, savour a VIP wine tasting and enjoy a breakfast made of locally sourced produce. After your days of exploring the Mornington Peninsula you can retreat to your villa with a soak in the spa sipping on a glass of bubbles.  Aaaah…
