Mornington Peninsula is fast becoming Australia’s pre-eminent outdoor sculpture destination.  As Spring rolls into Summer what would be better than a drive and a wander around the Peninsula to visit astounding and beautiful art installations.   These amazing sculptures have been placed in locations that entice you to enjoy the outdoors, set up a picnic, laze nearby and will spark your own inner artist.  Follow the trail outlined below, we guarantee you will do it again and again.

Point Leo Estate

If the Mornington Peninsula is the capital of outdoor art and sculpture, then Point Leo Estate is our crowning glory.   This wonderful sculpture park is opening in late October.  The modern architecture (by Melbourne based firm Jolson) opens as a gateway at the highest peak of the property offering a portal like experience, where you are transported through the restaurant and into a landscape filled with large scale artworks. First impressions count and you won’t be disappointed as you take in the vines, sculptures and that breathtaking view.

The remarkable sculpture collection is dotted around the property creating a distinct vibrancy against the enormous backdrop of the sea. The site is accessible to all with winding paths and places to sit and enjoy the best the Peninsula can offer - art in a spectacular natural setting.  The winding tracks take you on an artistic journey through sculptures of varying size and scale. The shorter path is a 30-minute walk and the longer path is 60 minutes, or for those with a little more time on their hands you can combine the two.

If food and art take your fancy then this is also a reason to make this a must-visit place, with a former Rockpool chef in the kitchen and expansive views across Western Port it is hard to beat.

Sculpture Park: Open daily 11am-6pm, last entry at 5pm. Entry $10pp.

Continue your sculpture journey

Ticking Point Leo Estate off your list will only leave you wanting more. The display of sculptures on offer is ever-evolving which means plenty of excuses to go back, but here are some more Mornington Peninsula favourites for those looking for further artistic brilliance to enjoy.

Montalto Vineyard and Olive Grove

Montalto has successfully reimagined the pairing of wine and art, and are another beacon in our region.  Delight the family with a walk through the vineyard following the sculpture trail down to the wetlands where not only will you spot great art, but also local waterbirds.  This wonderful place offers the enjoyment of wine, food and art all with a family friendly feel.  Enjoy a cold beer and pizza, some of the best wine in Australia and (if the fancy takes you) a food experience good enough to earn it a coveted Chefs Hat award.

Jackalope Hotel

Upon arrival you will find it hard to miss the 7m high Emily Floyd sculpture that this beautiful place is named after. It dominates the courtyard and ignites your curiosity as it welcomes you to a luxury property that oozes sophistication.  This luxury hotel is a living work of art.  Everywhere you look there are artistic installations.  The hotel is themed for alchemy….. Discover it for yourself - you will not be disappointed.   Jackalope offers several dining experiences, and one of the most contemporary bar experiences in regional Victoria.

Enchanted Adventure Garden

This is a constantly changing garden and outdoor leisure facility that entices you to get lost in expansive and whimsical gardens.  Fly above the tree line to get a different perspective or just follow your nose and senses and discover outdoor art installations.   The Enchanted Adventure Garden is one of the most visited family attractions on the Peninsula.  Families love setting up their picnics under shady trees and letting the children wander, explore and forget screen time completely.  The Enchanted Adventure Garden team are always there to ensure you are having fun.  Young or old; give it a try.
