Discover distilled deliciousness and beautiful brews

Although beer is one of the world's oldest prepared beverages, possibly dating back to the early Neolithic or 9500 BC, there is nothing old-hat about the brewers, cidermakers and distillers of the Mornington Peninsula. Yes, the local wine industry is well established but now there's some sibling rivalry in the local cellar door scene. There’s a new world of handcrafted beer including seasonal releases, local apples made into whole-juice cider, and artisan distillers creating distinctive gins, vodkas, limoncellos and more.

While the vikings believed that a giant goat whose udders provided and endless supply of beer was waiting for them in Valhalla (viking heaven), it’s far easier to find a local craft brewery on the Mornington Peninsula. The Mornington Peninsula’s Beer Cider and Spirits Trail leads you on a fascinating journey with tasting paddles to sip and sample along the way. Innovation is integral to the story - like cherry wood smoked brews and beer makers using wine barrels to infuse their brews. It takes about 36 pieces of fruit to make one gallon of cider and the Mornington Peninsula can offer classic, sweet and dry ciders. With the deep red rich soil of Red Hill growing some of the best apples you will find ciders made using different heritage apple varieties for different flavours, ciders perfect for outdoor summer days - or mulled cider in winter.  There are even winemakers making cider. Oh, and there are spirits made to traditional recipes (with a twist of course), some rich in botanical aromas and flavours and others made with indigenous ingredients – even one made with ants. It’s delicious!
