December is just around the corner and it’s already beginning to feel a lot like Christmas…there’s Christmas shopping to be done, family visits to be organised, and Christmas menus that need to be planned - we’re feeling festive already! As Christmas is the season of giving, allow us to share these 6 splendid events happening on the Peninsula during December.

1.       Peninsula Hot Springs – Indigenous Walk

Learn about the cultural heritage of the region by taking part in an Indigenous Cultural Walk and Bathe Experience with Lionel Lauch and Peninsula Hot Springs on Saturday 2nd of December. During this 3-hour experience you will explore the No.16 beach divide in Rye surrounded by native coastal flora. Be awed and inspired during a didgeridoo meditation session by the ocean.

2.       Arthurs Seat Eagle – 1st Birthday Celebrations

For one year now the Arthurs Seat Eagle has been providing visitors with a bird’s eye view of the Peninsula and to celebrate this special milestone, the Eagle invites you to join them for a 1st Birthday celebration! There’ll be party food, balloon animals, entertainers and performers, bubbles on the deck and of course, what 1st birthday celebration would be complete without CAKE! Celebrations will take place over two days – Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd of December.

3.       Mornington Railway – Santa Specials

All board the Mornington Railway Santa Special! These special trains running on Sunday 3rd, 10th and 17th December will ensure a festive day out for all the family. Enjoy a steam train ride and a visit from Santa. Children are also able to write a letter to Santa and post it for delivery to the North Pole, decorate a Christmas tree and the whole family can enjoy the Christmas Carols from the Moorooduc Station.

4.       MPRG Exhibition – Coast: the artists’ retreat

For over 200 years, the Mornington Peninsula has been a muse and haven for artists.  Attracting a stellar roll call of some of the most recognisable names in Australian art, the wild and rugged coast has inspired works from artists such as Eugene von Guérard, Nicholas Chevalier, Louis Buvelot, Violet Teague, John Perceval and Albert Tucker. Coast: the artists’ retreat, running from 8th December through to 18th February at the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery, will bring together masterpieces from these iconic artists as well as newly commissioned works from GW Bot, Megan Cope, Raafat Ishak, Euan McLeod and Kerrie Poliness.

5.       Georgie Bass Cooking Classes: ‘Modern Australian Christmas’ and ‘Patch to Plate’

Be inspired to take your Christmas dining to the next level with Georgie Bass Café and Cookery’s first of two cooking classes on offer this month. In the ‘Modern Australian Christmas’ Cooking Class on 9th December, you will earn how to create simple, delicious Christmas inspired dishes with a modern Australian twist - making the most of the beautiful local seasonal produce on offer.

The second class on offer this month is ‘Patch to Plate’ in which Head Chef will lead participants through a forage to learn about seasonal produce and collect the hero ingredients for your dishes. Learn the tricks of the trade to turn your foraged produce into mouth-watering dishes you can prepare at home for your loved ones. A truly local and unique experience not to be missed on the 16th December.

6.       Polperro Winery– Yoga in the Vines

Polperro Winery’s Yoga in the Vines outdoor classes return this summer just in time to unwind from the busy year and recharge for the year ahead.  Classes will be held on the lawn at Polperro Winery daily from 26th December through to 14th January (weekend sessions will continue thereafter on Saturdays and Sundays until 28th January). Bring your own mat and enjoy a vinyasa flow by the vines.
