French Island General Store

French Island General Store is your base to discover the natural wonders of French Island; spot the numerous koalas; observe the unique and protected wildlife and flora.  With a delicious all-day menu, freshly roasted coffee and with good old-fashioned hospitality – French Island General Store is the beating heart of the island, welcoming locals and visitors alike. Grab a map, hire our e-bikes, or a car, and set out on your own nature adventure. Or enjoy the tranquility of our off-the-grid life by staying a night or two, or week, in one of our unique accommodation spaces. French Island General Store is your ‘one stop store’.

The French Island General Store and cafe has been run by the Le Serve family and their helpful staff since 2016. The store operates on the original site of the Tankerton Post Office, which opened on 3 September 1890. French Island General Store is the only shop on French Island, and is special in that it is a community and tourism hub; dine-in and takeaway cafe; small grocery store; post office; newsagent; bottle shop; bait and produce shop; petrol and LPG station; e-bike/car hire outlet; and accommodation provider.
