FEAST FOR THE SENSES

Hey, we know it’s cold – but there’s no need to fall into an icy slump… we’ve got the antidote to keep your senses alive this winter. Sure there’s the temptation to just curl up at home and hibernate until the chilly weather departs, but what if you could engross yourself in something other than the cold? Something that delivered a full sensory immersion?

Let’s start with a little Smell and Taste…

Have you ever stood at the bar in a cellar door and wondered… “Where are the gooseberry notes coming from?” No?

Well at Crittenden Wine Centre you can wonder no more as they have developed a most pleasurable wine tasting experience with all the “instructions” written out for you. Take your seat (yes a seat, at a proper table) where you’ll have five wine glasses on their very own instructional placemat along with a menu of wines to choose from. Perhaps you prefer all red… all white… Italian… single vineyard… whatever, the choice is yours. And so is the tasting experience. One of the very helpful staff at the Wine Centre can guide you through all of the intricacies of the tasting process or you can simply read the notes in the booklet and make your own call. We’re getting a hint of freshly mown grass in ours ;o)

Now that’s a Sight to behold…

When you decide on a mini break chances are you’ll select a location based on how it looks. Lakeside Villas at Crittenden Estate certainly delivers location, location, location (we know right! How convenient to be only a tiny stroll away from the Wine Centre!!). But not only is this delightful accommodation perfectly positioned on the same site as the winery, it also has wonderful lakeside vistas which can be seen through the enormous windows in both the bedroom and lounge. These fully appointed, self-contained villas provide everything you could wish for including a few little  personal touches and notes to help you utilise all of the amenities – hotel time = run a bath and make a cup of tea time! Now as tempted as you’ll be to light the open fire and snuggle up on the comfy couches you can’t just yet as there are more sights to see.

Fly like an eagle…

Arriving at a new destination, the best idea is to get to as higher ground as possible to survey the lay of the land. Climbing aboard the Arthurs Seat Eagle will make this an easy task and covers off a couple of senses in the process. As you ascend Arthurs Seat inside your state of the art gondola (oh, did we mention you’re on an awesome chairlift journey?) the view that opens up in front of you is amazing! Soaring through the tree-tops you’ll only feel the touch of a breeze on your skin thanks to the fully enclosed cabin. On your rise to the summit (305 metres above sea level), all of Port Phillip and beyond to the city of Melbourne is there for you to see – dare we say it’s a sight to behold.

A magnificent feast…

Each year, not long after harvest time the grapevines are pruned and prepared for the following year’s vintage. So what is one to do with all of the prunings? Create a magnificent bonfire stack that takes centre stage at the annual ‘Winter’s Feast’ at Max’s Restaurant. A fun and friendly evening filled with hearty meals, good wine, entertainment and a cracking bonfire. Just imagine it… basking in the glow of the fire, toasting marshmallows, sipping mulled wine with the twinkling lights of Phillip Island in the distance…

Sounds like…

With all of this tasting, feeling, sniffing and viewing you must be thinking we’ve forgotten one of the senses? Of course we haven’t. The ultimate sensory pleasure of this little journey is the sound of your breath as you exhale and relax into the ultimate winter wander escape.
