Katherine Hattam - Gallery 1

Melbourne award winning artist Katherine Hattam is having a major solo exhibition at & Gallery including her Archibald Finalist portrait of Helen Garner.

Words and images - that’s it. That pretty much describes my current paintings. My mother, Kate Hattam was a gifted reader, and there is such a thing. So began my love of reading, added to an artist father creating a world of images. In 2004 they had both died; us children divided, among other things, the books. I had many double ups. By way of celebrating her I recycled many creating a grid of pages on which to lay images. 19 years later this process persists but now words have crept into what were straight oil paintings.

Lisa Roet - Gallery 2

Lisa Roet is a local artist with global acclaim, whose work explores the multifaceted relationship between humans and primates, spanning 30 years. Roet's work delves deep into fundamental questions surrounding human evolution, language, communication, and the very essence of our shared existence with primates. Rather than delivering didactic lectures, Roet's art exudes a sense of vitality, honesty, and enigma, inviting viewers to contemplate the profound connections between humanity and our primate relatives within the intricate tapestry of biology, nature, and culture. Central to Roet's artistic narrative is the figure of the ape, serving as both muse and mirror to humanity's complex relationship with our evolutionary past.

Noel Fermanis - Gallery 3

Noel started his career as a much sought after ceramicist in the 1980s and has many works placed in collections from this era. In the late 80s Noel bought a pub... the Bakers Arms in Victoria Street Abbotsford. This turned out to be the beginning of many projects in hospitality that employed many artists incluidng myself. And although still creating including his pub interiors, Noel did stopped exhibiting.

Fast forward to 2024 and this is Noel’s first exhibition since his early successes and I’m so happy to have been able to finally convince Noel to have an exhibition after many years of friendship.

Noel will also be launching his memoir  during the exhibition and as part of the Sorrento Writers Festival. Not just another book this is a beautiful art work that has hand written notes, drawings, photographs and memories of his life and hilarious characters who along the way have helped make his wonderful life.
