It has been a golden week for the Mornington Peninsula as some of our favourite spirits shine on the world stage.
Bass & Flinders Distillery and Chief's Son Distillery both won gold at the World Spirits Awards, and JimmyRum Distillery nabbed gold for the first time at the World Rum Awards. So take a journey with us as we discover the golden trio.
Bass & Flinders Distillery
As the original distillery on the Mornington Peninsula, Bass & Flinders Distillery is bringing home a bag of medals, with one gold, four silver and two bronze across a range of their gins. The hero was Gin 10 – Wild & Spicy, which won gold.
Under the leadership of second-generation distiller Holly Klintworth, Bass and Flinders Distillery produces a range of gins made from local botanicals. Gins are made in small batches, and their distilling process differs from other gin-makers in that they use an old-age French method and rather than buy in the alcohol base, they make it from Victorian grapes.
Those visiting the distillery within the Dromana Habitat can sample a gin paddle or their latest seasonal cocktail. However, the Gin Masterclass is a must-do for any gin lover, where you make your gin and produce your recipe based on local botanicals.

Chief's Son Distillery
Producers of Single Malt Whisky on the Mornington Peninsula Chief's Son Distillery have been one of the region's most internationally celebrated distilleries since they opened. Naomi and Stuart McIntosh founded the distillery in Somerville, inspired by unusual beginnings. Stuart's father entered a competition to win a trip to the original home of Whisky - Scotland. Winning the competition resulted in Stuart's most extraordinary 10-day research trip. And today, we have Chief's Son Distillery.
Overlooking the working still and barrel room is the intimate tasting room. If you want to get closer, take a moment and book in for the distillery tour. Then, get down to the distillery floor where all the magic happens and hear the tales behind the label.
The McIntosh's are also bringing home a nice haul of medals with two gold and a silver for their latest adventure Single Malt Vodka. To plan your visit to the Distillery Door, click here
JimmyRum Distillery
To round out our golden trio, we arrive at JimmyRum Distillery. Chief Ideas Man, James McPherson, started the distillery and made it his purpose to make us all lovers of rum. A neighbour to Bass & Flinders Distillery, JiimyRum also calls the Dromana Habitat home.
The distillery offers days to spend with the distiller, an unforgettable experience. Sundays are also fun days in the Rum Garden, where Rum cocktails flow and local live music fills the air, ensuring chilled, laid-back vibes surround.
In their first gold, their RumRum topped the charts for Hybrid Still. Variations Oak and Navy also performed well, achieving silver and bronze in the same category.
