Winter for lovers of wine

Winter calls for the winter wine weekend celebration across the Mornington Peninsula and this year is no different. With autumn leaving our wineries in full production mode – winter is a time to slow down and celebrate the fruits of their labour, and let’s join them.

With over 50 cellar doors, the Mornington Peninsula winemakers are some of the most celebrated in the country. The cool climate of the Mornington Peninsula makes our wines unique, and the region is renowned for quality Pinot Noir and Chardonnays.

In celebration of winter wine weekend, we’ve selected a few of our wineries for you that are worth discovering.

Tucks, Red Hill South

Tucks has a relaxed winery atmosphere, described as the ultimate adult playground. They are renowned for their pinot noir and chardonnay but also offer many other varieties. They have three different ranges, peaking with their Pinot Noir, made from grapes grown in their Buckle Vineyard. Buckle is the original north face plantings in Red Hill, with perfect growing conditions. Pinot Noir from Buckle is only produced when the vintage is on point!

Tucks encourage you to try their wines before telling you what it is, so you can experience the wine without the bias. It makes for a fun experience and the chance to try with an open mind.

Trofeo Estate, Dromana

Trofeo Estate is a family-owned vineyard and is best known for its alternative wine-making techniques, producing wine using terracotta amphora (pots). Making wine in terracotta has a rich history with the method dating back 6,000 years. They are the biggest producer of terracotta wines in the southern hemisphere, importing the Amphorae directly from Chianti in Italy.

Trofeo Estate offers wine tastings daily at their cellar door, taking you through their unique winemaking story and guiding you with recommendations while taking you through their award-winning wines.

Quealy Winemakers

Don’t let the look of the rustic cellar door fool you – Quealy Winemakers is home to some of the finest wines on the Mornington Peninsula. Kathleen Quealy is one of the most well-known winemakers on the Mornington Peninsula, responsible for planting the first Pinot Gris/Grigio in Australia, which the region is now so well known for. The cellar door is right in the middle of the working winery, taking it back to basics as you taste surrounded by wine barrels and machinery. It’s the perfect spot to learn more about the ins and outs of wine-making and different vintages.
