There’s a new world of handcrafted beer including seasonal releases, local apples made into whole-juice cider, and artisan distillers creating distinctive gins, rums, limoncellos and more. These aren’t your typical Friday knock-off spots; they are born from locals with a genuine passion for crafting superb blends and they want to share it with you. The Beer, Cider, Spirits trail takes you to some of the best producers in Australia and will leave you thirsty for more.

The trail meanders around the Mornington Peninsula region from Seaford in the north to St Andrews Beach in the south, with soon to be 14 places to visit.

Worth a detour are the regions northern most areas of Seaford and Carrum Downs where you’ll find respectively Dainton’s Brewery and Mr Banks Brewery. These guys are set in typical industrial surrounds and are firmly carving a place in the craft beer scene. Just 20 minutes away is Mornington Peninsula Brewery – appropriately to be found in Mornington, and keep your eyes open for the soon-to-be-opened Chiefs Son Distillery in Somerville.
It has become apparent that the upcoming hot spot for all things brewed is Dromana. Jetty Road Brewery was the first to appear in this once-sleepy industrial estate in 2017. A year later they were joined by TWØBAYS Brewery boasting a completely gluten-free menu of beers and food, and Bass and Flinders Distillery who relocated from their previous home in Red Hill. New in 2019 is JimmyRum Distillery which brings the number of trail stops within a 500m radius up to four. Only a 5-minute drive down the road is Hickinbotham of Dromana which offers a double whammy of deliciousness by serving up their Hix range of craft beers as well as estate made wines.
Long before there were any grapes being grown in the region it was orchards lining the roadsides of the Mornington Peninsula. You can still find orchards among the grapes in the hinterland areas of Red Hill and Shoreham, and this is where you can taste ciders made from locally grown fruit at Mock Red Hill, Hart’s Farm and Tucks. Just down the road behind it’s own hop garden is Red Hill Brewery, one of the original breweries of the region that continues to surprise and delight.
Serving the most southern tip of the Peninsula is St Andrews Beach Brewery offering up a unique experience of dining in former stables of famous race horses like Makybe Diva.
