Five days of one-litre steins, German food and Bavarian blue and white.
Munich’s Oktoberfest wraps up on 4 October. Ten days later, the Mornington Peninsula gets its own. Tar Barrel Brewery & Distillery will host Steinfest from Wednesday 14 to Sunday 18 October, turning its Watt Road brewpub into a Bavarian beer hall, complete with blue-and-white flags and one-litre steins.
The festival centres on three Tar Barrel beers brewed on site and poured by the litre: a Pilsner, a Farmhouse Ale and a Lager. Guests can buy a Steinfest stein with its first fill and come back for refills across the five days, or take the stein home as a keepsake.
The kitchen goes German for the week, serving bratwurst, German-style pizza and loaded fries.
“Oktoberfest is one of the great celebrations of beer, and we wanted to bring a slice of it to the Peninsula,” said Tar Barrel founder Matt Bebe. “Grab a stein, bring your mates, dust off the lederhosen and settle in.”
Steinfest runs during normal trading hours. Bookings are recommended for groups.
$35 stein + first fill · $20 refills · $20 stein only
