Let’s do lunch

We have hunted and gathered some local favourites, perfect for sharing a hearty seasonal lunch as you explore the Mornington Peninsula. Read on to get your taste buds tempted!

It's important to take the chance to slow down and reward yourself with the abundant flavours available at one of our many foodie destinations this season.  Lunch is the perfect meal to catch up with a friend, celebrate a special occasion, gather the tribe, or make time for that special someone.

Ocean Beach Pavilion

From Thursday to Sunday, feast away the hours at the Sorrento’s Ocean Beach Pavilion Restaurant.  Begin your flavour journey with a pan seared Scallop followed by a spicy green curry or mild massaman style curry with peanut and coconut cream. If you have a sweet tooth, what better way to finish your gourmet spread than with a vanilla bean panna cotta with wild berries coulis or spoil yourself with a lava cake made with Vietnamese coffee and dark chocolate. Time to plan a romantic lunch date, it has been way too long!

Merricks General Store

In Merricks discover the Merricks General Wine Store for a hearty lunch stop. One of the Region’s most instagrammed buildings the country inspiration shines through, with a menu shaped by abundant local produce.  For a main event, try their mushroom fazzoletti with caramelised pumpkin, comté and toasted pine nuts, you won’t be disappointed! If chicken is more your style, try a crusted hazeldene chicken breast with vadouvan sauce, celeriac remoulade and pickled mustard seeds. Is your mouth watering yet? Home to the cellar door for Elgee Park, a visit here is the perfect opportunity to couple a lunch with a local wine tasting. With a big open fireplace, the retail space is full of gorgeous local artisan wares waiting to come home with you. Next door at Merricks House, you might decide to spend a little more down time and explore the latest exhibition.

Hickinbotham of Dromana

Between Wednesday and Sunday, the charming rustic space of Hickinbotham of Dromana offers an inspired menu of hearty lunch dishes using fresh ingredients from their own herb and vegetable gardens and local producers. A popular seasonal avourite is the Flinders Lamb, slow braised with thyme (and love!), aligot potatoes, green peas and Jerusalem artichokes with lemon.  If pork is your passion – try the twice cooked pork belly, with creamed leak and kassler, grain mustard and baked local apples, kraut and cider sauce - you will not leave without a full belly! If you simply can’t decide you can opt for the ‘feed me’ option which lets their chefs choose for you – how can you lose? Settle in and enjoy the quirky and thoroughly inviting venue with an open fire to keep you warm.
