Dromana’s TWØBAYS Brewing Co. is celebrating a national honour, with Head Brewer Kristian Martin named Australia’s Brewer of the Year at the 2026 Beer & Brewer Awards. Nominated by his industry peers and selected from 14 finalists across the country, Kristian is bringing the title home to the Peninsula, and sharing the credit with the team behind the taps.
“There are so many incredible brewers in Australia, so to win this award is absolutely humbling,” Kristian says. “Our brew team’s dedication to quality is second-to-none, and it’s special to bring that recognition for the whole team home to the Peninsula.”
For visitors, it’s another reason to make a stop at this Dromana brewery, where doing things differently has always been part of the story.
TWØBAYS founder Richard Jeffares started the brewery after a coeliac disease diagnosis changed what he could drink. He wanted the freedom to explore a whole range of great beers again. Today, that ambition means European-style lagers, modern craft ales and traditional stouts, all brewed entirely gluten free using alternative malts.
Whether you avoid gluten or simply appreciate a well-made beer, there’s a whole world of flavour to discover.
And the recognition keeps coming. In July, TWØBAYS was named Champion Australian Brewery at the 2026 New Zealand Beer Awards, adding to World Beer Cup gold medals in 2024 and 2025. It’s an impressive run for a local team helping change expectations of gluten-free brewing.
For Richard, the achievement is deeply personal.
“I started this brewery so I could drink a range of great beers,” he says. “He has taken us further than I ever believed possible.”

The TWØBAYS Brewery and Taproom in Dromana opens on weekends from 12pm to 5pm, with 12 beers on tap and woodfired pizzas.
