Wine Food Farmgate reveals the Mornington Peninsula’s most delicious secrets. How do you get a sensational seasonal snapshot of the Mornington Peninsula? Just follow the Mornington Peninsula Wine Food Farmgate trail, where you can eat, forage, sip, shop, learn and tour the very best of this region.

Just drive through our region, and the Peninsula's love affair with wine, fresh produce, seafood and bountiful food on the table is quickly revealed. Taste it, sip it, pick it, catch it, take it home with you. Summer brings berries and cherries, while autumn is time for apples and pears.  In winter, forage through the hinterland for seasonal produce, warm up with a meal beside a roaring fire or enjoy your favourite tipple overlooking glorious countryside. Stride out on a beach walk then reward yourself with hot soup or a woodfired pizza and a glass of red wine in a seaside village. Return in the Spring for crisp, fresh vegies and cherry blossom.

You will find many wine, food and farmgate experiences hidden away throughout the Mornington Peninsula. You just need to know where to look. To help you discover them, we've brought the finest together to create the Mornington Peninsula Wine Food Farmgate Trail.

Tis the season to be feasting…

It’s the time of year when friends and family come together for big gatherings, barbeques and festive celebrations.

If you fancy heading out to forage for your feasting ingredients, or just need some inspiration for that perfect festive meal, follow the Wine Food Farmgate Trail to visit our farmers and produce stores to fill your basket with fresh, local goodies.

Here’s a few of our top produce picks…

For a fresh at the farm gate experience, head to Benton Rise Farm’s 1910 ‘Red Rattler’ train carriage, Hawkes Farm store, Kings Market Gardens or certified organic market gardeners Peninsula Fresh Organics.

You can cook up the perfect dish of honey roasted vegetables with some delicious varieties of Pure Peninsula Honey and for the perfect cheese platter try any of the goats milk cheeses at the Main Ridge Dairy farmhouse sales outlet.

An Australian Christmas celebration staple would have to be fresh seafood. From prawns to lobster, calamari or mussels, you will find the best available at the Peninsula Fresh Seafood roadside ‘farmgate truck’ on the foreshore at Safety Beach. If you’re’ planning a traditional Christmas dinner, head down to Hillock Downs Produce Store in Rye for delicious chemical and preservative beef products and locally grown veggies.

Of course, if you’re looking for a ‘one stop shop’ where you can peruse the aisles and fill your trolley to the top with everything you could possibly need, head into some of our favourite gourmet stores…

Cellar & Pantry is a specialty grocer in the hub of Red Hill stocking an extensive range of local wine, cider, beer and spirits, to accompany some of the best local fresh produce, cheeses and smallgoods from the Peninsula alongside Australian and imported goods. Originally the site of an apple orchard, the Tully’s Corner Produce Store is the perfect stop for lovers of good produce. With fresh fruit and vegetables, a continental deli, gourmet butcher, fresh seafood, bakery lines and there’s even an abundance of fresh flowers.

Berries and cherries… Oh My!

Some say that no celebration pavlova is complete without an abundance of berries piled on top and bowl of plump cherries beside. You can ensure that your desert centrepiece is fully dressed with a visit to Sunny Ridge Strawberry Farm, Red Hill Cherry Farm, Ripe ‘n’ Ready Cherry Farm, Mock Red Hill or Staples Orchards to stock up on your summer berry needs. (remember berries and cherries are seasonal, so my not be available all the time. To avoid a wasted trip, check websites, social media or even give them a call to check availability prior to your visit).

There’s always room for chocolate!

Whether you need to find the perfect gift, plate up a gourmet dessert or just keep a little something sweet on hand during the ‘silly season’ - or simply because you love chocolate… the team at Mornington Peninsula Chocolates lovingly hand-craft their sumptuous chocolate creations daily at their Flinders premises. They match perfectly with the region’s berries and they taste divine!
